Even though all countries in Europe face similar demographic transitions, the member states oversee their own policy planning for Demography. This at times creates silos of knowledge and prevents synergies. We at FutuRes believe that to connect policy expertise creates an advantage.

On March 19, 2024 the FutuRes Policy Lab hosted 26 policy specialists from several national and regional governments in Europe. The meeting participants exchanged their perspectives on policy needs tied to trends such as decreasing birth rates, longer lifespans, changes in family structures, urbanisation and migration.

FutuRes strives to connect European demographic expertise in science and policy sectors. Each member state and region requires a tailored approach - however, continuous dialogue across borders and between policymakers is essential to work towards a resilient future for European populations. We are happy and honoured to be providing a space for this dialogue.

We would like to thank all participants for joining us and discussing ways towards a resilient future for people in Europe. We would like to give special thanks to the Population Team of the Scottish Government, which partnered with FutuRes to plan this exceptional meeting.
